Dr Mikao Usui was a Buddhist monk who sought to understand the nature of healingas embodied by Christ, Buddha and other spiritual teachers. His spiritual enquiry lasted many years and lead him to some ancient Tibetan sutras written in Sanskrit. There he discovered some symbols which he knew held the key to his search; he went on a 'vision quest', where after twenty one days of fasting, meditation and eventual surrender the secret of these symbols and instruction on their use was given in a revelation. He then dedicated his life to the practice and development of what is known to-day as the Usui System of Natural Healing.
